A Jewish dessert recipe close to our hearts and rooted in heritage. This is my great-great-grandmother’s Flódni recipe made just like she used to make it. As long as we remember, as long as we say their names, their memory will live on, so will their flavors.✨❤️

Here’s how 💃🏻

(We skipped the raisins because my husband really doesn’t like them 😅)

Ingredients:

🍰 The Dough:

• 500g flour

• 1 whole egg + 1 yolk

• Pinch of salt

• 12g baking powder

• 250g margarine

• 150g sugar

• 1 tbsp wine (if needed)

🍏 Apple Filling:

• 1.5kg peeled apples

• 1 flat tbsp cinnamon

• 4 tbsp sugar

• Juice of ½ lemon

🌰 Walnut Filling:

• 300g crushed walnuts

• 1dl sweet kosher wine

• 150g sugar

• Juice of ½ lemon

• Zest of ½ lemon

• 1 packet vanilla sugar

🌸 Poppy seed Filling:

• 300g crushed poppy seeds

• 150g sugar

• Juice of ½ lemon

• Zest of ½ lemon

• 1 tsp cinnamon

• 1dl sweet kosher wine

• 1dl juice from apple filling

Method:

  1. Start with the apple filling, it takes the longest! Once that’s ready, prep the other fillings + set aside.

  2. Make your dough by hand or with a mixer. Wrap it in foil + chill for 30-60 min. Divide into 4 parts. Roll each to tray size on a floured surface.

  3. Layering:

1️⃣ Base dough → fork holes → apricot jam → walnut filling

2️⃣ Next dough → fork holes → plum jam → poppy seed filling

3️⃣ Third dough → fork holes → breadcrumbs → apple filling (press gently)

4️⃣ Final dough → fork holes → brush with egg

  1. Bake at 170°C / 340°F for 1 hour.

  2. Toothpick test.

Enjoy ❤️❤️❤️
